Why Buy Property in Turkey

Turkey is located across the Anatolian peninsula; it stretches across western Asia and south Eastern Europe. Turkey borders eight other countries, including Bulgaria to the northwest, Greece to the west, Georgia to the northeast, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east and Iraq and Syria to the southeast.

The capital city of Turkey is Ankara, and the largest city in the country is Istanbul. The main language spoken in Turkey is Turkish.

Turkey is located mostly on the Anatolia peninsula, which is approximately 97% of the country which is separated from Europe. Turkey is surrounded by seas; it has the Aegean Sea to the west, the Black sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Sea of Marmara to the northwest. The remaining percentage joins onto Europe directly. Turkey is the world’s 37th largest country. There are over seventy million people living in Turkey.

The areas near to the coast bordering the Mediterranean Sea have a temperate Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, yet wet and cold winters. Closer inland near the mountains seasons are much more varied due to the mountains blocking the Mediterranean’s influence, here winters can be extremely cold. The country as a whole has a hot and dry climate, with May on average generally being the wettest month.

Turkey’s culture is a blend of Eastern and Western traditions because of its geographic positioning. Turkey has had many influences from many different places such as, Romans, Greeks, Islamists, as well as modern western culture. Turkey was once a religious based country but has moved more now towards being a modern nation-state with a strong separation from religion. During the transition a strong artistic expression was felt by many people living in the country at the time, the government therefore invested heavily into resources of fine art, museums, theatres and architecture.

Many local and Islamic traditions can be seen in much of the Turkish architecture.
