Greece is located in south-eastern Europe; it is situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. The Ionian Sea is located to the west of the islands, whilst the Aegean Sea lies in the west. The Mediterranean Sea is located to the south of the country, where many islands can be found, the capital city of Greece is Athens.

Greece is most famous for its heritages and culture. Ancient Greece was a major influence in the structure and landscapes of the land, and in many places still is today. The Roman and Byzantine Empires also played a large part; it is thought that the shores of the Aegean Sea were home to the first advanced civilisation in Europe.

Mount Olympus has always been a focal point throughout Greek history and culture, during times in Ancient Greece many people believed the area to be the throne of the Gods.

Greek cuisine is a prime example of a healthy Mediterranean diet, the cuisine itself has had influences from many places around Europe including Italy, Balkan and Middle Eastern Europe. Fresh ingredients are the main part of any Greek diet; olive oil is added to almost every meal.

Samos is located in the north Aegean Sea, it is south of the island of Chios and north of Patmos, and it is located to the west of the coast of Turkey. The capital city of Samos is Vathy, often referred to as Samos Town. Much of the land on the island is covered with vineyards and so wine is very popular and has a high reputation.

The population on the island is around 34,000 people, and is Greece’s eighth largest island. The climate on the island is Mediterranean, they experience long, hot summers and cold, wet winters.
